Starts as a turkey but comes to it´s own when the story really begins and we get to see high adventure across the open outback of Australia. The characters are a bit over the top mostly and don´t quite gel with the beauty of Luhrmann´s visuals. Nullah the young mixbred boy is fine but his voice-over is too cheesy while trying to convey a fairytale quality. Still , it is a huge and sweeping tale of loss, romance, the comedy could have been left out though. And well there won´t be a dry eye in the house by the end. Not the great movie I hoped for.

This movie was AWESOME but it didn't really follow the book as much as I thought it would. Plus, Jasper always looked weird, and Edward shouldn't make his eyes big...it makes hime look extra freaky... and not in a vampire way... |

Definitely a Pixar influenced Disney product, it was in fact produced the John Lassester (Toy Story 1 & 2) and it feels it. It tugs at your heartstrings as often as it hits your funny bone, and succeeds on both levels. I docked it a half star because unlike a true Pixar film, this one gets pretty obviously heavy-handed about it's message about "Everyone can be a hero". By about the third time this is addressed I was ready to move on. I did like it and I believe this one will find a long healthy life in my DVD collection. I saw it in digital 3D with the polarized glasses, very nice! Great use of 3D. The didn't ever resort to throwing stuff at the screen, instead they played with the depth of field which is what is making this current crop of 3D movies so fabulous. If you ever want to see both success and failure in a 3D film try watching Beowulf, they break the spell by throwing and thrusting stuff at the audience, but then the scenes of the ships coming ashore in the distance with the horse galloping in, major success. As far as Bolt's 3D, it is a huge success, very pleased with it and it starts with an amazingly great action sequence that is all the more fun because of how over the top it is. I love this movie! The little hamster Rhino steals the show in this one! |

I was initially skeptical about the quality of a movie that could dare try to match my favorite books. Although Twilight is not without a few flaws in scriptwriting, I'm thrilled to say that the movie was awesome and far exceeded my expectations! The casting is unbelievably accurate all the way around. PLEASE read the books...otherwise, you can't fully appreciate the cinematic efforts that are to come. The passion and intensity that Edward and Bella have is only a fraction of what is written in the book. Judging from the overhwhelming reponse of fans, New Moon (2010) will no doubt have a much higher budget to eliminate the small imperfections that are noticeable in Twilight. |

I absolutely loved it! I am not a big fan of vampire movies, but this one was awesome! I love the chemestry between Bella and Edward. This was a new take on the whole vampire story and I just really really fell in love with it. It was an amazing movie from start to finish. The story was so fresh and intellegent. I love stories with awesome human connection and this was definately one of those kind of stories! The acting between the two main characters was so intense, passinate and powerful, it took my breath away! This is definately going to be in my top 10 favorite romance movies of all time. I can't wait to see it again! |

Great performances and production design are marred by a reliance on archival footage that distances us from Milk and his activist friends. I never truly felt his struggle, it all seemed too easy for him. Wouldn't he ever have a moment of doubt or weakness? Too much history was covered and not enough character development.
Also, Diego Luna sucked. |

Trop fort... |

Australia

AUSTRALIA is Baz Luhrmann's love letter not only to the country of Australia, but to the sweeping epics of a long-gone cinematic era. It is filled with cinemascope vistas and equally larger-than-life characters in a wide-arcing story that touches on themes of love, perseverance against persecution, and family, all set against the too-often unknown history of Australia. Lurhmann, as he did in Moulin Rouge, combines a quintessential love story with tongue-in-cheek storytelling that some may find difficult to swallow, particularly within the early stages of World War II. It's important to recall that its predecessors such as Gone With The Wind, From Here To Eternity, or Red River also danced freely on stages of camp and melodrama. AUSTRALIA covers this ground and more in its 15 minute running time. What may seem to be the core of the film is the inevitable romance between Kidman's too-thin and too-proper Lady Ashley and Jackman's too-muscular and too-rugged Drover. Both actors play their roles to the chops, often in a manner too ham-hocked to catch the eye of the Academy and yet it is diccult not to be swept up by their classic romance. However, Lurhmann smartly places the true heart of the story into the character of Nullah, a small native boy of mixed descent, played by newcomer Brandon Walters with such heart that the Academy may see past the marquee names and recognize him as they did with fellow young Australasians Anna Paquin and Keisha Castle-Hughes. Baz Luhrmann has constructed a film that is at once homage, history lesson, and of course romance. But in reality AUSTRALIA is a coming of age story, of a country coming to terms with its growing role in the world and the tragic imbalance of its people, and of a young boy capturing his own identity while the world and people around him struggle to do the same. Like his previous film, MOULIN ROUGE, Luhrmann creates a beautiful story that, while perhaps too campy for some, is to the open-mided both familiar and totally unique. It is a throwback to the classic epic yarns, as well as something new and memorable in its own right, and every bit worth experiencing. |

Nicole Kidman's lately left a cold trail in the box offices lately, but she's picked up after this. Hugh Jackman is "crikey" amazing, but I'm probably just biased. I don't think any other man can glorify the act of rounding up cattle and make it look so fantastic. Every second Australian actor seems to be in this film. At best this is a sweeping, romantic epic but at worst it's a perpetuation of (or homage to) colonial Australia stereotypes. I think it's important for us to be aware of our history, and this film at least enlightens us of the darker side of Australian culture; particularly poignant is the acknowledgement of the PM's apology to the indigenous Australians at the end. The production values are on par with most blockbusters (Australia has never looked this good) although the prevalent use of CGI for the landscapes becomes irritating. The villain of the piece is kind of hilarious in a morbid way. David Wenham is quietly menacing as the calculating, cruel Fletcher. Dubbed the Australian "Gone with a Wind" but I think this is an injustice to both films. It's great escapism. Amused that Jackman's character is only known throughout the film as the Drover and also at Lady Ashley's reaction to seeing wild kangaroos for the first time. |

This was cute and had all the usual cast of crazy characters to complement the main star. The story, plot and conclusion were typically predictable for a kids/family movie. Sprawling epic that suffers slightly from a fairly climactic sequence at the 2 hour mark of a 3 hour film, it still entertains for its full running time. The characters may be thinly drawn, but they're likable and you want them to be happy, the villains are suitably slimy, it's a nice production and worth a look.
